Telephone:  Box office: 01722 320 333
Event:  Stories from an Invisible Town - 7.30pm - "Let me tell you about the imaginary town I lived in as a boy…” This collection of dark comic stories woven together by BBC award-winning writer, “the great Welsh storyteller” (The Stage), Shôn Dale-Jones is as much about the imagination as it is about innocence and not knowing what to do with the things we know. Shôn takes us from the empty swimming pool up the hill to behind the woods, introducing us to five-foot Tarzan, Double Delyth and Lord Ivor as we feel the magnetic pull of the river sucking us in. As this made-up town starts to feel more real, Shôn wonders what’s happening to his imagination – it’s running riot. Joyous, stomach-turning, moving and very funny – could this be the best show Shôn has ever made? It could be.

Don Quixote (is a very big book) Saturday 04 October 2025
Venue:  Salisbury Arts Centre     map Categories   Puppetry  •  Theatre
Address:   Bedwin Street, Salisbury, Wiltshire, SP1 3UT
Telephone:  Box office: 01722 320 333
Event:  Don Quixote (is a very big book) - 7.30pm - In his new one-man show, Dik Downey (Green Ginger, Pickled Image, Opposable Thumb) weaves together the crazed delusions of Don Quixote with his own struggle against reality. With a rogue’s gallery of puppets and desperate clowning, Dik’s Quixote embarks on surreal, comic misadventures, accompanied by his wisecracking sidekick, Sancho Panza, and his decrepit horse, Rocinante. While Dik fights to make his retelling of this huge novel joyous to a contemporary audience, we see something else – Dik’s refusal to yield to the passing of time. As Quixote chases his impossible dreams of glory, Dik faces his own dwindling relevance and his mortality. This international co-production from the company that made Coulrophobia, a “truly fabulous showcase of clowning and puppetry skills” (Total Theatre), blends laugh-out-loud moments with mad reflections on the joys and indignities of growing old and fighting against the inevitable.

An Audience with Jonathan Dimbleby Thursday 09 October 2025
Venue:  Salisbury Arts Centre     map Categories   Talk
Address:   Bedwin Street, Salisbury, Wiltshire, SP1 3UT
Telephone:  Box office: 01722 320 333
Event:  An Audience with Jonathan Dimbleby - 7.30pm - Wiltshire Creative welcomes bestselling historian Jonathan Dimbleby with his new book Endgame 1944: How Stalin Won the War. June 1944 saw the greatest defeat ever suffered by the German Armed Forces. More than two million Red Army soldiers, facing 500,000 German adversaries, finally avenged their defeat of three years earlier. While the same month saw the Allies triumph on the beaches of Normandy, it was in fact the events on the Eastern Front in 1944 that were the knockout blow in the Second World War. Dimbleby’s gripping narrative sets the drama of the relationships between Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin against the history being created on the battlefield, and shows how Stalin’s victories in 1944 enabled him to dictate the terms of the postwar settlement and lay the foundations for the Cold War.
