Event:  Songs of the Bulbul - 7.30pm - Birdsong is ephemeral – like dance, it exists only in the moment— sung once, then lost to time. Nightingales, or “Bulbuls”, hold a special place in Persian culture, with their song representing a spiritual seeker, yearning for union with the divine. Songs of the Bulbul, a new dance work by Aakash Odedra with choreography by Rani Khanam and music by Rushil Ranjan, is inspired by the ancient Sufi myth of a bulbul captured and held in captivity. The beauty of this songbird’s melody serves as a metaphor for the fleeting moments of dance and an artist’s life. Rooted in the expansive music, dance, and poetry traditions of Sufism, this new work by two of the most outstanding Sufi Kathak artists performing in the world today emerges as a sensitive dialogue between the ferocious physicality of Kathak and the spiritual journey of Sufism, a path seeking unity with the Divine.

Event:  Eleanor Tiernan and Katie Norris: Work in Progress - 7.30pm - Comedian and writer Eleanor Tiernan has featured on Stand Up For Live Comedy (BBC3), Comedy Central’s The Alternative Comedy Experience and she has supported acts including Iliza Shlesinger, Stewart Lee, Tig Notaro, Ardal O’Hanlon, Jason Manford, Jason Byrne and Reginald D. Hunter. She has been a panellist on BBC Radio 4’s News Quiz and Where’s the F In News? and The Blame Game (BBC Northern Ireland). Recently Eleanor appeared in Holding, a new TV adaptation of Graham Norton’s debut novel. Eleanor’s style is “deceptively sharp” (Fest Mag) and filled with her trademark acerbic wit. Katie Norris is a comedian, actress, and singer, best known as one-half of the acclaimed double act Norris & Parker. Their show See You at the Gallows was one of the best-reviewed at Edinburgh Fringe 2016, making The Guardian’s top 10 comedy shows of the year, while Burn the Witch (2018) sold out in Edinburgh and London.

Swansea City Opera collected stories from members of the UK charity Men’s Shed who have experienced life's adversities and isolation to create a contemporary and uplifting opera that explores life’s ups and downs. Sung beautifully, Shoulder to Shoulder features singers who’ve worked at major opera houses, including the Royal Opera House and Glyndebourne.  The company features soprano Jess Robinson, a finalist in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World in 2023. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, an honorary Fellow of St. Catharine's College, Cambridge, was Chair of the Society of Authors between 2020 and 2024, and in 2022 was awarded an OBE by the Queen. She was born in Barnsley in Yorkshire and grew up above her grandparents' sweet shop. Joanne will be joined in conversation by Matthew Stadlen.
