Event:  An Audience with Sir Malcolm Rifkind - 7.45pm - Sir Malcolm Rifkind became a member of the Cabinet in 1986 as Secretary of State for Scotland. In 1990 he became Secretary of State for Transport and in 1992 Secretary of State for Defence. From 1995-97 he was Foreign Secretary. He served as the Chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee of Parliament, which provides oversight of the UK’s intelligence agencies, MI6, MI5 and GCHQ, from 2010 until 2015. He is a Visiting Professor at King’s College, London and is a Distinguished Fellow of the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI). Sir Malcolm will be in conversation with Matthew Stadlen.

Event:  Eagles, Birdsong and Bach - 7.30pm - When in the hands of virtuoso recorder player Piers Adams, the ‘Eagle’ recorder becomes a new symphonic instrument. Designed, built and perfected by the late Adriana Breukink, the ‘Eagle’ has forged a path of new possibility for the recorder, allowing it to soar away from its baroque roots. Ever since first hearing Piers play the ‘Eagle’, it has been a dream for Howard Moody to write a concerto for it, combining Bach’s orchestral line up of trumpets, drums, oboes, harpsichord and strings with the more contemporary sound worlds of saxophone and percussion. This concert places the music of Bach and Vivaldi alongside some of the recently devised music from the La Folia Birdsongs project that involved students from Exeter House and Salisbury Cathedral Schools. The programme culminates with the world premiere of Eagle Concerto.

Today his step-Great Grandson Hal Cazalet, with pianist Simon Beck, transports us back to the Golden Age of stage and screen through stories and song. One of our greatest comic writers, ‘Plum’ Wodehouse said he wrote his stories like "musical comedies, without the music". His musicals between 1915-1935 not only defined the American Musical, but informed the way he crafted his novels and characters. Event:  Hejira - Celebrating Joni Mitchell - 7.30pm - Hejira is a 7-piece band set up to celebrate and honour the masterpiece works of Joni Mitchell, mostly from the late ‘70s. Having released the albums The Hissing of Summer Lawns, Hejira, Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter and Mingus, Joni then toured briefly with a band formed from the crème de la crème of contemporaneous musicians (Metheny, Mays, Brecker, Pastorius and Alias). The tour was recorded, producing the outstanding live recording, Shadows And Light; it is from this period that the band Hejira is drawing the body of its repertoire.
