Event: Roger McGough: Alive and Gigging - 7.30pm - A national treasure, Roger McGough presents Radio 4's flagship programme Poetry Please, and remains one of the most recognisable voices in British poetry. Now 86 and still gigging regularly, McGough has thrilled and delighted generations of readers with his irreverent, intimate and ever-original poetry. In this new show, McGough takes audiences on a journey through his life in poetry, back to his childhood during the Liverpool blitz and bomb-shelters, his youth as a contemporary of the Beatles and Bob Dylan and the fame of number one hits and Top of the Pops with ‘Lily the Pink’ and ‘Thank You Very Much’ with the band The Scaffold. Join us for an unmatched store of warmth, wisdom and feeling from Britain's most beloved poet.

Event: Luke Wright: JOY! - 7.30pm - Following the smash hit success of his Silver Jubilee show Luke Wright returns with a new set poems that get to grips with the idea of JOY. Is it possible, as a 42 year old to feel pure unbridled happiness, and what does it look like? The French novelist Henry de Montherlant said that “happiness writes white” but Wright’s not exactly starting with a blank page. With a mix of the of the comic and the wistful, JOY takes in consumerism, boozing, cancer scares, abseiling vicars, and the joy of language itself. We might have to go down to come up, but we’ll get there in the end. Come let a little joy into your life with a raconteur and wordsmith at the top of his game.
