Poetika 44 - PANDAPLOMACY CEMENTS INTERCOUNTY FRIENDSHIP

Start time: 7.30pm

(this month's theme is Black & White - as is the dress code!!) Not since the days of Chi Chi and Ling Ling has as grand a gesture been made between too major powers as Hampshire's presentation to Wiltshire next Wednesday of Syd Syd and Dam Dam. Well not exactly – and though they may well answer to these names they are more commonly known as Syd Meats and Damian O'Vitch, who together comprise Panda-monium – “Hampshire's pre-eminent harmonium duo”(!) - This month Panda-monium will be headlining at Poetika, the spoken word and acoustic open mic that takes place every third Wednesday evening upstairs at the Cloisters, Catherine Street. They say of their performance that “what starts as a musical picnic soon becomes transmogrified into a carnival of wasps, leaving only a sense of false geography and the inevitability of a new pair of trousers” – and a new pair of trousers may be what you need to attend, as on this occasion the hosts have called for a dress code of black and white clothes only, in honour of their presence. The evening will commence with the usual open mic, all who come will be encouraged to read poetry or short prose of their own, or by writers they admire, plus acoustic musicians are invited to contribute single songs. Those prepared to just sit and listen are especially welcomed. The evening starts at 7.30pm on Wednesday 17th May and takes place in the function room upstairs at the Cloisters, 83 Catherine St, Salisbury; a donation of £2 to £3 is suggested towards the hire of the room.
