This special outdoor concert is included with normal admission, offering the chance to experience traditional music in a beautiful historic setting. The Wessex Folk Orchestra, led by William Shering, perform a lively and uplifting programme of traditional country dance music. Drawing on sources such as Playford’s Compleat Dance (1651–1728), the Thomas Hardy and Jane Austen family tune books, alongside newly composed pieces, their performances bring historic music vividly to life. The orchestra has appeared at venues including Mompesson House, Hinton Ampner, St Thomas’s Church Salisbury and Jane Austen’s House, and look forward to performing at the former home of the passionate musician Edward Heath. Visitors are very welcome to bring picnics and drinks to enjoy in the garden while listening to the music. We simply ask that you take any rubbish home with you to help us keep the gardens beautiful for everyone. Bring a chair or picnic blanket, relax, and enjoy the music as part of your visit. Bringing together four friends with diverse musical backgrounds, the quartet perform an eclectic and carefully crafted repertoire rooted in the folk traditions of the British Isles, reimagined through wholly original arrangements. Although many of the tunes they play are centuries old, their approach is fresh, imaginative and wonderfully engaging. They specialise in rich harmonies, lyrical melodies and a warm, conversational style of performance that has won them enthusiastic audiences at folk festivals, churches and arts venues across the country. A Pimm’s bar will be available throughout the evening. Opera Anywhere is delighted to present Così fan tutte, a new, vibrant production of Mozart’s comedy masterpiece directed by Tristan Stocks. This hilarious farce, edited and adapted in English, brings the timeless story to life with a unique twist. Set in early 20th-century Gibraltar, a bold bet is placed between Don Alfonso, Ferrando and Guglielmo. Don Alfonso wagers that he can prove their girlfriends, Fiordiligi and Dorabella, are unfaithful, like “all women”. As the men ‘leave’ for war, two handsome strangers arrive on a mission of seduction. But how will the girlfriends react? Full of mischief and larks, be prepared to be swept away with stunning music and clever wit, as the story unfolds to reveal themes of love, fidelity and deception. Sung in English.
